Our evening ladder leagues filled up in just a few minutes, so we’ve added the two new options below.
Tuesday 7-9 AM Morning Ladder League (Intermediate I level, 3.25-3.75): Our individual ladder leagues in Crown Heights are the best way to get appropriately leveled games in a competitive setting. Meet new friends who are in your skill range and get 4 weeks of DUPR games logged to your profile.
Sunday 4-6 PM Development League (Intermediate I level, 3.5+): This 4-week instructional practice series in Bed Stuy will be led by our Williamsburg-based coach, Brian Ross. Develop your fundamental technique, footwork, and strategy through drills and games with other growth-minded players.
If you’re looking for our daily open play schedule, you can check that out here!
Astoria Park Courts are Back!
Our beloved courts under the bridge have finally reopened after 1.5 years of being fenced off for bridge repair & construction. The last of the equipment was removed on March 1st, and we’ve confirmed that the four courts are accessible again. Court lines remain in good condition, but the surface could use a nice power wash. (If you or anyone you know can help out with this, drop us a note!)
Join the Slack and find the #games_astoria_lic channel. If you don’t see any open plays that work for you, we encourage you to set up a net and post a poll inviting others to join you. As the weather gets warmer and days get longer, keep an eye out for the return of TGIF summer play!

We hope you’ll join us again this April for an action-packed day of pickleball. See the full list of divisions below. Spots are filling quickly, so don’t miss out!

Permanent nets for Carl Schurz Park?
There’s potentially some big change coming to Carl Schurz Park. The well known Upper East Side Pickleball Courts are home to one of the largest communities of pickleballers in the city. Last year, 3 courts were permanently painted, but nets were still being provided by the local community. This often led to some tension on the court, as players had spirited debates over open play rotation, and how the courts could be utilized depending on who provided the nets.
But that could all soon change as the Multipurpose Playground Area (MPPA) will undergo further renovation, and permanent nets are heavily being discussed, similar to how they are set up at Riverside Park. Someone with credible knowledge has confirmed that CSP is the next park in Manhattan to get permanent nets, but the timeline is unclear and subject to change.
Community Participation Needed

There are three opportunities to try to get more courts created in Queens brought to our attention by community members.
Install Six Dedicated Pickleball Courts in Cunningham Park, Queens. Change.org petition. Current signatures 844, next goal is 1,000 signatures.
Hunter’s Point South Parcel E in LIC is being developed and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is looking for input on what amenities the community would like. Fill out this Questionnaire to include some pickleball courts, either in a Rec center or outdoors!
The Queensway is a 3.5 mile stretch of abandoned railway that stretch North South through several central Queens neighborhoods. There are plans to develop it just like the Highline along the west side of Manhattan, and there could be opportunities to add pickleball courts. Follow the project, send some emails and try to get involved now.
